FaqFlo vs Semrush: Which One Is Built for You?
Both help you get found. Only one of them assumes you do this for a living.
Why I built FaqFlo
I’ve been a marketer for more than twenty years. I pay for Semrush. I still open it and lose ten minutes finding the number I came in for.
That’s not a complaint about Semrush. It’s a very powerful tool, and powerful tools have a lot of surface. But if two decades in this job doesn’t make it feel obvious, I don’t know which business owner is supposed to feel differently.
So that’s the reason FaqFlo exists. Not because there’s a gap in the data, but because there’s a gap in who the data is written for. You should be able to look at one screen and understand how AI sees your business — without a course, a glossary, or a marketer sitting next to you.
That’s the whole product. Everything below is just the detail.
Let’s be fair to Semrush first
Semrush is not a bad product. It’s one of the best-known marketing platforms in the world, it has been around for years, and the data behind it is genuinely deep. Adobe completed its purchase of the company in April 2026 for about $1.9 billion, which tells you roughly how seriously the industry takes it.
If your job title has the word “marketing” in it, Semrush is probably already open in one of your tabs. Nothing in this article is an argument that it’s overpriced or overrated.
It’s an argument that it was built for someone who isn’t you.
What Semrush actually is
Semrush is a suite. Dozens of tools in one login: keyword research, backlink checking, rank tracking, ads, social posting, content planning, competitor research. The main plans run $139.95, $249.95 and $499.95 a month depending on how much you need.
More recently they added AI answers to the mix. The AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99/month per domain and tracks 25 prompts across ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity. There’s also a bundle called Semrush One that folds the SEO tools and the AI tracking together, starting at $199/month.
There’s a free account with limited features, and a free AI visibility checker you can run without paying. Those are real, and they’re useful.
But look at the shape of the thing. It’s a platform. Platforms are priced on the assumption that you’ll use a lot of them, most days, because using them is your job.
What FaqFlo is
FaqFlo does one thing, and it’s narrow on purpose.
You put in your web address. We fetch your home page the way an AI crawler does and tell you, in plain English, whether it can read you at all — and who got named instead of you when we put three real questions to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. That part is free, and it doesn’t ask for a card.
Then, if you want the rest: we find the questions people actually put to AI about your category and your area, write answers built to be quoted, and hand you a block of plain HTML to paste onto your own website. After that we watch 25 questions for you every week and show you whether your name started coming up.
That’s the whole product. $39/month, or free if you only want to know where you stand.
The difference that actually matters
Here’s the split, and it’s bigger than price.
Semrush is a measuring tool. It’s very good at telling you what’s true. Your visibility score is this. Your competitor is named for these questions and you aren’t. This page has these problems. That’s real information, and for a marketer it’s exactly the right handoff — because a marketer knows what to do next.
FaqFlo is a fixing tool. The measurement is the first ten seconds, not the product. The product is the block of HTML you paste into your site so the crawler has something to read.
That gap sounds small until you’re standing in it. A report that says “your content isn’t readable by AI crawlers” is a finding. It is not a fix. Somebody still has to write the answers, format them correctly, put them in the right place on the site, and check that they actually landed as readable text. If you have a person for that, the report is the whole value. If you don’t, the report is homework.
The vocabulary problem
Open Semrush and you’ll meet keyword difficulty, domain authority, share of voice, crawl budget, prompt volume, SERP features. Every one of those is a real concept that a marketer uses daily.
Every one of them is also a thing you’d have to go learn.
We took a hard line on this with FaqFlo. No credits. No seats. No API in the menu. One box, one button, and an answer you can read without a glossary. When a feature required teaching you a new word, we usually cut the feature.
That’s not us being clever. It’s the only version of this that a roofer will actually finish.

Who should pick which
We’ll be straight about this, because pretending otherwise wastes your money and our time.
Pick Semrush if you’re a marketer working for a big company. If this is your actual job — if you have the time to learn a platform properly and the volume to justify it — you’ll get far more out of a full suite than out of us. Same goes if you need the other work done: paid ads, backlinks, ranking for hundreds of keywords, managing a stack of client sites. We don’t do any of that and aren’t going to.
Pick FaqFlo if you’re the owner, the marketing department, and the person who answers the phone. If what you want is a clear answer to “can AI see my business, and if not, what do I paste where” — that’s the entire thing we built.
Or do both. Plenty of businesses will. There’s nothing stopping you from running a full platform and still using something small that hands you finished content. They don’t conflict.
And one more thing worth saying plainly: none of this replaces regular SEO. A healthy site that ranks well is still the foundation, and it always will be. Getting quoted by AI is the next floor up, not a replacement for the one underneath.
Where FaqFlo comes in
If you’ve read this far and thought I don’t have a marketing person, I just want to know if I’m invisible — that’s the exact sentence we built FaqFlo around.
Put your web address in. In about ten seconds you’ll know whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini can read your site, what your AI-visibility score is, and which competitor got named when we asked a question you should have won. No card, no call, no new vocabulary.
If you like what you see, Pro writes the answers and hands you the code to paste. If you don’t, you keep the free report and you’ve lost ten seconds.
That’s the test I set for myself when I started building it: could I hand this to a plumber and have him understand it without me in the room. If we ever fail that test, tell us.
Frequently asked questions
Is FaqFlo a Semrush alternative?
Only for one narrow job. If all you want is to get read and quoted by AI assistants, FaqFlo does that job more directly and for a lot less money. If you need keyword research, backlink analysis, paid ads or rank tracking, FaqFlo doesn’t do those and Semrush is the better tool.
Why is Semrush so much more expensive?
Because you’re buying dozens of tools, not one. Semrush plans start at $139.95 a month and the AI visibility tracking is another $99 a month per website, which is fair pricing for a full platform used by a full-time marketer. It’s expensive mainly if you only ever open one part of it.
Can I use both FaqFlo and Semrush?
Yes, and some businesses should. Everything FaqFlo produces is standard HTML and FAQ schema, so it drops into whatever else you’re running without conflict. They overlap a little on AI tracking and not at all on everything else.
Does Semrush publish the content for me like FaqFlo does?
No, and that’s the main practical difference. Semrush is built to tell you what’s happening so a marketer can act on it, while FaqFlo writes the answers and gives you a ready-to-paste block of HTML for your own website. One ends with a report, the other ends with content on your site.
I already pay an SEO agency. Do I need either one?
Maybe not — ask them what they’re doing about AI answers specifically, since it’s a different job from ranking on Google. If the answer is vague, the free FaqFlo check takes about ten seconds and gives you something concrete to bring to your next conversation with them.

👋 Hi, I’m Beau. I’ve spent almost 20 years in marketing — long enough to watch the whole game change more than once. I was there when SEO was the answer, then social, then content, and now the biggest shift yet: people asking AI instead of Googling. Somewhere along the way I got tired of watching good small businesses do everything “right” and still stay invisible to the tools that increasingly decide who gets found. That’s why I built FaqFlo — my mission is to help you grow your business in the modern world of AI, so you become the answer, not just another link nobody clicks.
