FaqFlo vs. Ahrefs: Which One Is Built for You?
Both tell you the truth about your site. Only one of them hands you the fix.
Why I built FaqFlo
I’ve been in marketing for more than twenty years. I’ve used the big platforms. They’re excellent, and I still lose ten minutes in one looking for a single number I came in for.
That’s not a knock on the tools. Powerful software has a lot of surface, and that surface is the point when it’s your full-time job. But if two decades in the industry doesn’t make it feel obvious, I don’t know which business owner is supposed to feel differently.
So that’s why FaqFlo exists. Not because there’s a gap in the data — there isn’t, the data out there is very good. The gap is in who the data is written for. You should be able to look at one screen and understand how AI sees your business, without a course, a glossary, or a marketer sitting next to you.
That’s the whole product. Everything below is detail.
Let’s be fair to Ahrefs first
Ahrefs is not a lightweight tool with a marketing budget. It’s one of the most respected SEO platforms in the world, and the reason is unglamorous: they run their own web crawler and their own index. When you look up who links to a competitor, that’s real data they collected, not a guess.
If you do SEO professionally, Ahrefs is probably already open in a tab, and nothing in this article argues it shouldn’t be. This isn’t a piece about Ahrefs being overpriced or overrated.
It’s a piece about it being built for someone who probably isn’t you.
What Ahrefs actually is
Ahrefs is a suite of research tools in one login: backlink analysis, keyword research, rank tracking, site auditing, content research, competitor analysis.
Pricing is a ladder. There’s a small Starter plan at around $29 a month, then the three tiers most people actually buy — Lite at $129, Standard at $249, Advanced at $449 — and an Enterprise tier starting around $1,499. Paying yearly takes roughly two months off. Each plan includes one user; extra people on your team cost extra per seat.
AI visibility is separate. Their AI tracking product, Brand Radar, is an add-on rather than something bundled into the plan you’re already paying for. Public pricing puts it at about $199 a month per AI platform, or around $699 a month for all of them, with custom prompt-tracking packages starting around $50 a month on top. It also requires an active base subscription — so full AI coverage lands near $828 a month once you add the cheapest qualifying plan underneath it.
So if what brought you here is “I want to know whether ChatGPT mentions my business,” the realistic Ahrefs answer is a base plan plus an add-on. There’s also a free tier, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, which gives verified site owners a limited look at their own site — real and genuinely useful, but it isn’t the AI part.
Look at the shape of the thing. It’s a research platform. Platforms are priced on the assumption that you’ll open a lot of them, most days, because opening them is your job.
(Prices as of publication. Everyone in this category changes them.)
What FaqFlo is
FaqFlo does one thing, narrow on purpose.
You put in your web address. We fetch your page the way an AI crawler does and tell you, in plain English, whether it can read you at all — plus who got named instead of you when we put real customer questions to the AI engines. That part is free and doesn’t ask for a card.
Then, if you want the rest: we find the questions people actually ask AI about your category and your area, write answers built to be quoted, and hand you a block of plain HTML to paste onto your own website. After that we watch 25 questions for you every week and show you whether your name started coming up.
That’s it. $39 a month, or free if you only want to know where you stand.
The difference that actually matters
Here’s the split, and it’s bigger than price.
Ahrefs is a research tool. It is very good at telling you what’s true. These sites link to your competitor. This page has these errors. You’re mentioned in this share of AI answers and they’re mentioned in that share. For a marketer, that’s exactly the right handoff — because a marketer knows what to do next.
FaqFlo is a fixing tool. The measurement is quick and isn’t the product. The product is the block of HTML you paste into your site so the crawlers have something to read.
That gap sounds small until you’re standing in it. A report that says “your content isn’t readable by AI crawlers” is a finding. It is not a fix. Somebody still has to write the answers, format them correctly, get them onto the right page, and check that they landed as readable text instead of JavaScript the crawler skips. If you have a person for that, the report is the whole value. If you don’t, the report is homework.
The vocabulary problem
Open a platform like Ahrefs and you’ll meet domain rating, referring domains, keyword difficulty, crawl credits, share of voice, prompt volume. Every one of those is a real concept a professional uses daily.
Every one of them is also a thing you’d have to go learn.
We took a hard line on this. No credits. No seats. No API in the menu. One box, one button, and an answer you can read without a glossary. When a feature required teaching you a new word, we usually cut the feature.
That’s not us being clever. It’s the only version of this a roofer will actually finish.

Who should pick which
We’ll be straight about this, because pretending otherwise wastes your money and our time.
Pick Ahrefs if SEO is somebody’s actual job. If you’re doing link building, competitive research, keyword strategy across hundreds of terms, or managing a stack of client sites, you’ll get far more out of a full research platform than out of us. We don’t do any of that and we’re not going to. Their crawler and their index are the real product, and nothing small replaces them.
Pick FaqFlo if you’re the owner, the marketing department, and the person who answers the phone. If what you want is a clear answer to “can AI see my business, and if not, what do I paste where” — that’s the entire thing we built.
Or do both. Plenty of businesses will. Everything FaqFlo produces is standard HTML and standard schema, so it drops into whatever else you’re running without conflict.
And one more thing worth saying plainly: none of this replaces regular SEO. A healthy site that ranks well is still the foundation, and it always will be. Getting quoted by AI is the next floor up, not a replacement for the one underneath.
Where FaqFlo comes in
If you’ve read this far and thought I don’t have an SEO person, I just want to know if I’m invisible — that’s the exact sentence we built FaqFlo around.
Put your web address in. In about ten seconds you’ll know whether the AI engines can read your site and what your AI-visibility score is. The answers themselves — which competitor got named when we put your questions to the engines — land a few minutes later, and you can close the tab while they run. No card, no call, no new vocabulary.
If you like what you see, Pro writes the answers and hands you the code to paste. If you don’t, you keep the free report and it cost you nothing.
That’s the test I set for myself when I started building this: could I hand it to a plumber and have him understand it without me in the room. If we ever fail that test, tell us.
Frequently asked questions
Is FaqFlo an Ahrefs alternative?
Only for one narrow job. If all you want is to get read and quoted by AI assistants, FaqFlo does that more directly and for a lot less money. If you need backlink data, keyword research, rank tracking or site crawls, FaqFlo doesn’t do those and Ahrefs is the better tool.
Why is Ahrefs so much more expensive?
Because you’re buying a research platform with its own web crawler and index, not a single tool. The tiers most teams buy run $129 to $449 a month, and AI visibility tracking is a separate add-on at about $199 a month per AI platform, or around $699 for all of them. That’s fair pricing for something a full-time SEO opens every day. It’s expensive mainly if you only ever wanted one part of it.
Can I use both Ahrefs and FaqFlo?
Yes, and some businesses should. Everything FaqFlo produces is plain HTML and standard FAQ schema, so it sits on your site alongside whatever else you’re doing. They overlap slightly on AI tracking and not at all on everything else.
Does Ahrefs publish content to my site the way FaqFlo does?
No, and that’s the main practical difference. Ahrefs is built to research and report so a marketer can act on it. FaqFlo writes the answers and gives you a ready-to-paste block of HTML for your own website. One ends with a dashboard, the other ends with content on your site.
I already pay an SEO agency. Do I need either one?
Maybe not — but ask them specifically what they’re doing about AI answers, since it’s a different job from ranking on Google. If the answer is vague, the free FaqFlo check is quick and gives you something concrete to bring to your next conversation with them.

👋 Hi, I’m Beau. I’ve spent almost 20 years in marketing — long enough to watch the whole game change more than once. I was there when SEO was the answer, then social, then content, and now the biggest shift yet: people asking AI instead of Googling. Somewhere along the way I got tired of watching good small businesses do everything “right” and still stay invisible to the tools that increasingly decide who gets found. That’s why I built FaqFlo — my mission is to help you grow your business in the modern world of AI, so you become the answer, not just another link nobody clicks.
